Barbara Petree, Obstetric Nurse, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in obstetrics and teaching.

Upon becoming a nurse, Ms. Petree was motivated by wanting to help people, especially families. When providing her services, she is attentive to not just the patient, but the patient’s family. Ms. Petree currently serves as a member of the disaster preparedness team for the Perinatal Department of Stanford University Hospital. Additionally, she is a retired senior staff nurse in labor and delivery at Stanford University Hospital, and she has also worked in the obstetrics unit. She has previous experience as a nursing coordinator for Stanford University Hospital, and as a staff nurse for the Children’s Hospital. Furthermore, Ms. Petree has imparted her skills and expertise of obstetrics as a nurse educator and member of the outreach program at Stanford University Private Perinatal since 1972.

Ms. Petree first pursued the field of nursing by earning a diploma at the Children’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She later received a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Redlands in 1976, and a Master of Arts at the institution in 1979. In addition to being certified as a registered nurse, she is certified in electronic fetal monitoring. In 1986, her work was recognized with the North Carolina Nurse of the Year Award from the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN). She is a member of AWHONN, and of the coordination council of the California Perinatal Association. In addition, she maintains affiliation with Sigma Theta Tau. Ms. Petree feels that being open to learning from both successes and mistakes has been beneficial to her career.
