Luetta Schwery, RN, BSN, retired community health nurse, been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in home and public health.
Regarded by industry professionals as a caring health care professional driven to improve the situation of others through quality patient care, Mrs. Schwery celebrates a career that enabled her to always give 100 percent. Retired since 1997, she concluded her career with the Shelby County Public Health Services in Harlan, Iowa. While there, she was a community health nurse, which meant that she focused greatly on the public health needs of the immediate geographical region. Prior to taking on this role, she found success in such noteworthy roles as surgical nurse for Myrtue Memorial Hospital, staff nurse at Little Flower Haven, and nurse for Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
To prepare for her career, Mrs. Schwery earned a diploma from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 and became a registered nurse. Committed to her professional development, she continued to take coursework throughout the early years of her career at Iowa Western Community College and Bellevue College. In 1989, she achieved a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Clarkson College. In recognition of her professional excellence as a nurse, Mrs. Schwery was named a scholar by many prominent groups. She is a distinguished Mr. & Mrs. Frank Fredrick Lahr Scholar, an Ambrose & Timothy Pfeifer Scholar, and a Thomas A. Magruder Junior Memorial Scholar. She was also the recipient of a Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital Medical-Dental Staff Scholarship. In her retirement, Mrs. Schwery is very proud of her career accomplishments. Looking ahead, she intends to continue enjoying her time through hobbies and passion projects.
