Sandra R. Ross, RN, CPHC, retired psychiatric nurse, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychiatric nursing and intensive care.

With a God-given gift to calm others down through her own calming disposition, Mrs. Ross has been a success since establishing her career in 1968. Fascinated by the way that the mind works, she specialized in the area of psychiatric nursing. Now retired, she concluded her career as a detox staff nurse for the Catholic Charities Campus of Hope in Omaha, NE. She came into this role in 2003 after spending many years with the Douglas County Hospital, where she had many impactful roles including psychiatric ICU staff nurse, infection control practitioner, quality assessment manager, and staff development educators. Along the way, Mrs. Ross has given her time outside of her full-time work to many organizations in the medical community. She served as president and treasurer of the Regional Nursing Quality Assurance Organizations and contributed her efforts to ACLU, the National Association for Healthcare Quality, the Nebraska Association for Healthcare Quality, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, the Union of Concerned Scientists, and the Association for Retarded Citizens.

Mrs. Ross entered her profession after speaking with a nursing school recruiter as a high school senior. She had already known that she wanted to do something helpful with her life, but the conversation she had with the recruiter was pivotal in steering her toward nursing. To prepare for her career, Mrs. Ross earned an RN in nursing at the senior level and a diploma in nursing from Nebraska Methodist College in 1968. From there, she became a registered nurse in the state of Nebraska, as well as a Certified Professional in Health Care. In recognition of her professional excellence in her career, Mrs. Ross was selected for inclusion into Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women. In looking ahead to the future, Mrs. Ross intends to enjoy her retirement while giving back through civic initiatives and passion projects in the years to come.
