Wilma Ruth Martin Coffman, Women’s Health Nurse and Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing.
Distinguished for more than five decades of nursing, Ms. Coffman has provided medical services that have helped patients on their way to wellness and has inspired and instilled these skills in future generations of medical professionals. Her first position after graduating with a BSN from East Tennessee State University in 1962 was as a pediatric staff nurse at Holston Valley Medical Center. She stayed in this position for a year until working in maternal-child health at the hospital, from 1963 to 1977. After gaining a plethora of experience, she became an instructor at Kingsport City Schools and Johnson City Schools, from 1977 until her retirement. In addition, she earned a Master of Science from the University of Tennessee in 1987.
Ms. Martin’s career has been fueled by her love of helping people. In addition to being a nurse and an educator, she has reached out to people through her music and has been an organist for her church for more than 65 years. She started playing the piano at age 11 and was taught by her mother. In addition, Ms. Martin is a member of the Toonie Cash Evangelist Association and Pi Lambda Theta. In her well-deserved retirement, Ms. Martin enjoys sewing, gardening and spending time with her family.
