Title: Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Company: Children’s Hospital
Location: Eagan, Minnesota, United States

Lorraine Victor, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at the Children’s Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in neonatal nursing.

In her career, Ms. Victor is proudest of the education that she was able to do within her own hospital, and other hospitals. Part of her job entails teaching nurses and physicians at smaller hospitals, through the STABLE Program, how to stabilize and take care of sick babies before they are transported to the NICU. While not only important work, it has been immensely rewarding to see so many lives impacted from her help. Providing care to sick babies and their families has been a driving force in her career.

Ms. Victor prepared for her career by first earning a BAN from the College of St. Scholastica in 1975. Knowing the importance of continuing learning throughout her life, she later received a MSN from the University of Minnesota in 1984 and completed postgraduate work at St. Catherine University. Ms. Victor is certified as an instructor for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program and as a neonatal nurse practitioner. Since 2001, she has worked as a neonatal nurse practitioner with the Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota in St. Paul. She has also provided her skills, services and compassion with the Orlando Health Regional Medical Center, the University of Minnesota Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital and University of Wisconsin Hospital.

Ms. Victor became involved in her profession because she was encouraged by her family to become a nurse since the age of three. She became the first in her family to go to college and felt that becoming a nurse was her calling. The mentors who inspired and motivated Ms. Victor were a nurse at Rochester, MN, who was her preceptor. She encouraged her to accompany her to teach about sick babies at other small hospitals in their area. In addition, Jane Persoon, who wrote an article with her and was the head nurse of the NICU impacted her by modeling integrity and grace under pressure.
