Title: Patient Care Coordinator
Company: Brookdale Hospital Center
Location: Brooklyn, New York, United States
Patricia Cruz, Patient Care Coordinator at Brookdale Hospital Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in patient care.
With 50 years of professional experience, Ms. Cruz has been an assistant supervisor at Brookdale Hospital Center since 1979. In addition to her primary role, she was a patient care coordinator from 1979 to 2013. Earlier in her career, she was a supervising nurse therapist from 1974 to 1979 and head nurse and assistant head nurse from 1969 to 1974. She loved working individually with patients and being their primary caregiver while working at Brookdale Hospital as a direct care counselor as it was a wonderful, rewarding experience. Seeing them succeed and maintain their lives outside of the hospital is the abiding joy of her life.
Ms. Cruz began her career as a student at New York City Technical College, where she obtained an Associate of Science in 1968. She continued her studies with St. Francis College, completing a Bachelor of Science in 1975. She then joined Long Island University, earning a Master of Science in 1977. She is certified as a nursing administrator and a mental health nurse by CASAC. When Ms. Cruz was growing up there were very few opportunities for women – you were either going to be a teacher, a nurse, or a stay-at-home mom. She always loved nursing and helping people, so she went into nursing. She’s very glad that options have expanded since then, but for all the lack of choice she had, she made the absolute most out of it; nursing became her passion and abiding joy.
