Backed by more than four decades of professional experience, Mrs. Gutman has been successful in her career because of her true desire to make an impact on others. Known for her integrity and expertise in nursing, Mrs. Gutman excels today in two roles as a consultant for healthcare and nursing education and an instructor of nursing, health technology and adult education. She has worked in these capacities since 1996 after establishing her reputation of excellence in her field. Her previous noteworthy roles include director of nursing at the Beverly La Cumbre Convalescent Hospital, director of inservice education at Pinecrest Hospital, assistant professor of nursing at Niagara County Community College, and staff nurse at Stanford University Hospital. She also served on numerous occasions as a charge nurse and a school nurse teacher at various academic levels.

To prepare for a career in the field of nursing, Mrs. Gutmann earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Niagara University in 1956. Shortly thereafter, she served in the Peace Corps in India. She and her husband worked in a health center, where they witnessed the poverty in rural southern India firsthand. Many locals remarked on how Mrs. Gutmann and her husband treated people equally, regardless of the reigning caste system that still held sway. The Gutmann’s were instrumental in creating local integration of disenfranchised peoples. In reflecting on her professional journey, Mrs. Gutmann notes that this was the highlight of her career. Upon returning back to the United States, she was inspired to drive even more impact. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of New York, Buffalo, and became certified by the California Nurses Association. Over the years, Mrs. Gutmann has held memberships with a number of organizations, including The Nature Center, The American Red Cross of Santa Barbara, and the Friendship Force of Santa Barbara. As she looks ahead, Mrs. Gutmann intends to continue in her tremendous work while taking on volunteer passion projects in her community.
