Carolyn Joyce Whitney, RN, Retired Head Nurse at St. Francis Xavier Hospital Care Psychiatric Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychiatric nursing.

Drawing upon more than 50 years of professional experience, Ms. Whitney is a respected nurse who commenced her career as a registered nurse at Boston Lying-In Hospital in 1950. Transitioning to an assistant and then supervisor at the Boston Floating Hospital between 1961 and 1964, she subsequently served as a nurse at Framingham Union Hospital from 1964 to 1975. Thereafter, she was a charge nurse in the Alcohol Detoxification Center in Framingham, MA, from 1975 to 1978. For the following two years, she then served as a program coordinator at Medfield State Hospital.

Ms. Whitney was an intensive care nurse at the Northern Trident Hospital in Charleston, SC, from 1981 to 1982, and served the next five years as a charge nurse in the crisis unit at Southern Pines Hospital. Most recently, she was the head nurse at St. Francis Xavier Hospital Care Psychiatric Center from 1987 until her retirement from the industry in 2004. Today, she enjoys spending time with her children, Richard Armstrong Whitney and Jennifer Rachael Plane.

Prior to delving into her career, Ms. Whitney pursued formal education at Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned a diploma in 1957. After gaining experience in the field, she received a Bachelor of Arts from Framingham State University in 1980 and a Master of Arts, with distinction, from Webster University in 1983. She has since become a registered nurse. As a testament to her success, Ms. Whitney was selected for inclusion in the 20th through 22nd editions of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.
