Dorothea Louise Morris, a Retired OB/GYN Nurse, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
Inspired by her aunt, Ms. Morris knew she wanted to be a nurse from the time she was 6 years old. Her desire never wavered, and she ended up graduating from the Beth-El School of Nursing with an RN diploma in 1966. To further her professional standing, she earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Alaska Methodist University in 1975, a Master of Public Administration from Troy State University in 1988, and a Master of Science in nursing from the University of New Mexico in 1990, as well as certification as a nurse midwife through the U.S. Air Force. She is registered as a nurse in the states of Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, Missouri, and New York.
Ms. Morris’s first position in the field was staff nurse at Memorial Hospital in Colorado, followed by staff nurse and supervisor at Albany General Hospital in Oregon, obstetrics staff nurse at both Harrisonville Hospital in Missouri and U.S. Air Force Hospital in Alaska, and staff nurse and instructor at both BOCES for LRN’s and Mohawk Valley Community College in New York. In 1977, she joined the U.S. Air Force, which she considers to be the best decision of her life. Ms. Morris started as a commissioned 1st lieutenant, and advanced through grades to lieutenant colonel. During this time, she served as an obstetrics staff nurse at the Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois, a nurse midwife at the Homestead Air Force Base Hospital in Florida, a nurse midwife at the Weisbaden Regional Medical Center in Germany, and a nurse midwife and instructor at Midwifery School at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. She retired as an OB/GYN at Associates of Farmville in Virginia in 1998.
Over the years, Ms. Morris received numerous accolades for her hard work and dedication. She was honored with two Meritorious Service Medals and a Commendation Medal from the U.S. Air Force, and with inclusion in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in American Nursing, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who of American Women.
When Ms. Morris has free time, she enjoys painting, knitting, crocheting, reading, quilting, playing bingo, and doing puzzles.
