Denise Schmitt, Organizational Development Specialist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in leadership learning and management advancement.

With more than 25 years of experience in the health care field, Dr. Schmitt attributes her success to continuing to be passionate about helping others. She became involved in nursing due to the care she received during a health crisis she went through as a child. In the years of her career, she gravitated from taking care of others to maintaining the integrity of caring in nursing while caring for themselves. She endeavors to continue helping nurses by expanding her outreach through workshops, education and spreading her influence.

Dr. Schmitt first earned a Bachelor of Science at the University of Delaware. She also has a Master of Science in leadership healthcare systems from Regis University and a PhD (ABD) in nursing education from Capella University. She has remained active in her own academic development throughout her career and recently, in 2017, received a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Chamberlain University College of Nursing.

Dedicated to empowering nurses and enhancing their leadership skills, Dr. Schmitt travels the country and provides workshops and consultations to aid her peers in their development. Her three-part series, “Influencing the Future of Nursing” takes the approach of looking at one’s self, asking ‘how do we want our careers to go?’  Dr. Schmitt also empowers nurses to speak up to doctors in order to provide the best care for patients. Looking toward the future, she endeavors to continue this work by expanding her reach through teaching and consulting. She hopes her work makes incremental changes to improve the work environment for nurses across the country.
