Mary Anne Grimes, RN, Retired Certified School Nurse, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Medicine.

Ms. Grimes has been a nurse since 1957, and in her most recent role served the South West School of the Roosevelt School District from 1996 to her retirement in 2000. She was honored as the 1995 Woman of the Year of the Metropolitan Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association Management LLC, and is a former vice president, president, and chapter president of the organization. Ms. Grimes is a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and has appeared in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.

A native of Kansas City, Kansas, Ms. Grimes worked as a nurse’s aide at the hospital across from her high school, and followed a friend into getting a job there. After her family moved to Phoenix, Ms. Grimes wanted to return and work in her home town, and worked to become a registered nurse of the St. Joseph School of Nursing. She never did move back to Kansas City, but she found an initial position as a staff nurse at the St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and Dignity Health. She was later certified as a school nurse, and in 1980 joined the Wilson School District Seven in Phoenix. Ms. Grimes always took advantage of workshops on pediatric nursing, and enjoyed the summers off as a school nurse.

Ms. Grimes was appointed for one year as health service coordinator of the Catholic Coalition for Urban Schools with the Diocese of Phoenix, and has supported numerous area societies in her civic community. She was a patron of the Spreckels Organ Society in San Diego, and a fundraiser for the Classical Chorus Bach and Madrigal Society of the Phoenix Chorale. In 1970 and 1968, Ms. Grimes was a campaign worker and secretary on the board of directors for the Republican Gubernational Election in Phoenix. From 1991 to 1995, she was secretary-treasurer of the Central Phoenix Council for Child Abuse Prevention. Ms Grimes is proud of working as a school nurse and saving lives when necessary. Her former students still contact her every now and again.
