Julie Bracken, RN, MS, CEN, Retired Clinical Nurse Specialist and Consultant at Cook County Health and Hospital Systems, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements and leadership in emergency trauma care.

Ms. Bracken utilizes her strengths and expertise to support the mission of the hospital to provide the rehabilitation, chronic disease and long-term link in the Bureau’s continuum of care. In her current capacity, Ms. Bracken is responsible for overseeing preceptors, clinical issues, the emergency unit and administrative duties within the emergency room, and for educating nurses and initiating practice changes.

Ms. Bracken began her career as an elementary school teacher and branched into the nursing field. She is also an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Illinois. Ms. Bracken has worked with the heart attack alert program, which is organized by the National Institutes of Health, where she set health care policy for heart attacks. She is also the editor of the newsletter for the Illinois Emergency Nurses Association.

With more than 40 years of professional experience under her belt, Ms. Bracken strives for excellence in her every endeavor. She supports such worthy causes as the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society, and she is a member of the Emergency Nurses Association, the Rush University Alumni Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International. She is a recipient of the 2001 Mary Kay Joyce Award for Emergency Nursing Excellence and Professionalism.
